Apple Mug Rug and Coasters

Have you sewn any mug rugs yet.  I see them in books and magazines all the time, but have never made any until now.   This free pattern from Interweave was originally for the four coasters but a little easy adjustment and you can have your self a matching set of mug rugs.  If  you didn't know, a mug rug is bigger than a coaster.  Jut enough room for your coffee mug and a cookie.

The pattern calls for a little green leaf on the top of one of the coasters.  I may or may not put one on.  I'll think about it.

So, don't you think these are so cute for this time of year? Kids going back to school and an apple for the teacher.

And also within the next few weeks we'll be out at the u-picks getting our winter's supply of Macs and Cortlands...

They are wonderful. How did you do the middle? Small snippets of fabric or a marker?

Those are cute mug rugs. Funnily enough Gorge Quilt Guild (Grand Falls, NB) has been challenged by their new president (cough, cough) to make mug rugs for their upcoming quilt show (September 28 at the Malabeam Centre by the falls, for those within driving distance.....) Will be interesting to see what they come up with. I gave them one stipulation~black/white with only one other colour.
Those mug rugs would certainly fit into that criteria. Very nice.
